Unit 32 - Sequencing Systems 7 Techniques - Logic Review

Logic Review

From the Unit Spec -

The evidence for learning outcome 4 will be provided by the demonstration of understanding of sequencing terminology. For P1, learners will provide simple unelaborated explanations of the specified terminology

1.     (Terminology relating to generic techniques: recording MIDI; editing MIDI; recording audio; editing audio;
instrument editing; mixing; external and internal control; bouncing down).

At merit level these explanations will be supported by reference to tools found in the sequencing software – E.G. Logic 9.

Distinction level learners will be assessing the success with which each tool performs its function, and comparing different methods of achieving similar results (eg the control of volume using track automation compared with MIDI continuous controllers), referring correctly to the terminology at all times to support their arguments.

In simple terms

For a Pass – You need to explain basic sequencing terminology – for example can you explain most of the following terms?

For a Merit – Can you explain how the following terms are related to Logic (how they work in Logic? How they are used in Logic? Where they are found in Logic)

For a Distinction – You would then need to assess, or give your opinion on how well they work, or how useful they are, or give opinion on the easiest/best method of using each thing

Unit 20 - Music for Moving Image - Task 1 - Video analysis

Find 3 clips that are the same format/genre (e.g. Space Films, Chocolate adverts etc). These should be specific clips (around 3-5 mins) that you can find on Youtube. You are required to embed the clip to your blog post. Make sure your clips make use of sound/music differently so that you can compare them later on!

Write about how the videos make use of sound & music, include a timeline of the structure of the use of sound. E.g. 0-30 secs dialogue only, 30-60 music creeping in with some sound effect (which use panning), 60-90 secs - no music only scraping sound FX.

Is the music diegetic or non-diegetic - Info about diegetic & non-diegetic Sound - or a combination?

How does the music/sound enhance the video?
How does it make the viewer feel?

How do the clips use music/sound differently?
Compare the clips and assess how successful/appropriate you think the sound is for the clip.
